If you have them inserted correctly you won't even be able to tell they are in there. I like using Tampax Pearls. The applicator makes insertion easy and you can get the box that has supers, regulars, and juniors all in the same pack. I use supers at the beginning of my period, regulars when it starts to slack off, and juniors at the end. Just sit on the toilet, push the tampon in straight back (sometimes pointing down may make for easier insertion), push the little wand it, and then throw the applicator away. Simple as that. If you aren't bleeding that much don't put a big tampons in because when you take it out it will feel like it's pulling on something and it can be a little painful to get out. Don't leave them in but about 4 to 5 hours because of the risk of getting tss (toxic shock syndrome). I wouldn't advise putting Vaseline on it for the fact that it's going to prevent good absorption and it's going to end up making a big mess. And tampons are WAY more hygenic than using pads that stick to you and smell bad. As long as you use them correctly you won't have a thing to worry about. I've been using them for years and have never had a problem.

Don't worry, millions of women use tampons. It does not hurt! Start with a small size. If you are anxious, try it when you are alone and relaxed. Just follow the instructions on the box. Make sure that you insert the tampon deep enough. All the best.

When tampons are used correctly they don't hurt and you can't even tell they are there. If you're a first time user, start on the lowest absorbency-lites or juniors. Make sure you are well lubricated as trying to insert dry will cause pain. Most importantly, RELAX. Tense muscles make for a very unpleasant and frustrating experience.

When my daughter is ready, I'm going to tell her the same thing I'm telling you. First of all, no it shouldn't hurt though it might be a little uncomfortable. Use the right size. If your flow is heavy, use a super if it isn't, use a regular. You can smear a little vaseline on the end of it to help make it easier to insert. Make sure you pee first, then when you insert it push a little as if you are peeing. That seems to work for me. Do you have an older sister or aunt or somebody you can talk to? They could be a great source of info too. Hope this helps.

i didnt even start using tampons until i was 19, i was scared too lol. but no it doesnt hurt, it might be a little weird at first because you just have to get used to it but after awhile you wont even notice it at all! as far as size it depends on your period, super for heavy, regular for well regular lol, and light for the light days. pretty easy to remember. i use tampax pearl, i think they are the best because the applicator isnt cardboard its plastic. cardboard applicators are really uncomfortable for me, plastic goes in a lot smoother. and sometimes it can help to put them in while you are standing up versus sitting down. just make sure to change them and try not to sleep with them in. i do sometimes its not a huge deal but its not all that good to do. i wouldnt be too scared, i think they are ALOT better than pads!

It does not hurt.
Get the slender or petite ones.
You HAVE to remember to change them every few hours.
You can't sleep with them in.
It ONLY hurts if your flow is light and IT is dry in there. Use a pad on light days.

tampons aren't the safest and most hygienic route when menstruating...
just use kotexes most times.. unless a tampon is required such as swimming...
gases from the shedding also build up inside the vaginal cavity when a tampon is in use....
which also isn't the best thing to do when one is expelling unused materials.

They are safe...whether you are a virgin or not....
However...there is a slight risk of toxic shock syndrome...
so start with light absorbency and alternate pads and tampons...
