its another way of giving the mind a break from stress

It's a way of processing all the stuff you experience every day. Your senses take in a lot more than you are consciously aware of, there literally aren't enough hours in the day for all the thoughts your brain has to mull over. Dreaming is a way of 'defragmenting' your mental processes and making sense of all the data. You know how you try to figure something out or remember a piece of info, and can't, but an hour or 2 later it comes to you? That's because your brain never stopped working on it, the process just continued in the background. When you sleep, your conscious mind shuts down and that process becomes visible to you.

When I daydream, I think about doing things that I might do in the future. Some of them have come true. I'm not sure why honestly but I like to.

We daydream when something phycalogically significant happens to us. Some examples are our first crush, our first truelove, or a really good dream we had, things like that. I don't know if it serves a purpose at his point, but I am determined to find out.

I'm no expert but from my education in psychology and work in mental health I believe that daydreaming, like the dreams we have when in deep sleep (REM) serve to help our subconscious process and make sense of the things that happen to us in our daily lives. This processing also helps the mind categorize and store feelings, emotions, and associations for later use (memories).
