Filing fees are generally between $150 and $200. The lawyer fees vary. Depends on if it is contested or not. It doesn't even matter if there are kids involved or not. Uncontested will ALWAYS be cheaper by a whole lot of money.

Let's say everyone was just as smart as you. The low paying jobs would still need to be filled. Then you have to consider factors like appearance, demeanor and eloquence. Take this answer for example. Two people might respond to your question with the same ideas but you will only pick one to be your best answer. Does it make the winning responder any smarter then the loser. If you had not been a good interiew you might have that $39,000 job. Also don't forget that almost everyone that educated you in school made less money then you do now. I am sure they are not lazy nor dumb.

Depends on how much your ex wants to fight you for. If you have kids and if you can't decide on things, your lawyers will decide and charge you for every minute. Mine was around $6k and then he took me back to court twice but he lost both times. Can you see why I'm divorced,ha. Get a good lawyer and good luck.
