There are countless agencies in cities throughout the country that help with situations like this. I suggest you contact the local Salvation Army office or a church and ask them to point you in a direction. There are food pantries in even the smallest of towns and the folks who staff them are wonderful. You don't have to be absolutely broke to go - they understand the needs of working families as well. I have used a food pantry myself on a few occasions and have been thankful for the help they provided. I now try to help others in the same way.
Some larger cities/churches also have programs where they will do gift certificates to grocery stores so you can select what you would like (with stipulations that no alcohol, tobacco, etc... can be bought).
I would strongly suggest you look up Angel Food Ministries. Folks across the country get together and buy food in bulk - boxes stuffed with food are $25 and you can buy multiple boxes, plus add ons of things like steaks. I love my Angel Food stuff and know countless people who enjoy it as well. Do try it! The link below has a search where you can find an AFM place near you, as well as the menus.
blessings!

Most communities have food pantries. Many churches and parishes do also. That should take you through the next few days. If you do not make much money you probably qualify for food stamps. There is no shame in accepting government help if you are working but need to feed your children. They are your first priority, not your pride.

I understand your dillemma and during this holiday season, I feel you big time; First off, the various social services in your area, Catholic Charities, Salvation Army etc should be able to help you. but you need to get with Food Stamps, and apply for emergency food stamps. Here in Alabama, if your homeless or don't have no available money, you can apply for food stamps and get it with an urgency. Also when you do go in for the stamps, take all your necessary papers(pay stubs, birth certificates, social security cards etc to show who's in your household and so forth;) I hope and pray you get it. peace.

They need to go to Social Services and get help. They have a program that gives emergency food to those in Dire need right then. They will then set up a food assistance program they can use until they are able to carry on without it.This is what they are there for.
