I could not agree with you more.
I watch a lot of television but it tends to be sky subscription channels and also Channel 4. In other words I hardly watch any BBC programmes at all apart from those it has sold to other networks, such as The Life of Mammals which is shown on the UK TV History channel on Sundays.
This is the important point. Now that we live in a global community the BBC makes an absolute fortune from selling its programmes not only to other networks within the UK but also to overseas broadcasters. I spend a lot of time in Egypt as I own a holiday apartment down there and the television they watch is not much different to what we watch. They even have Eastenders on their main channel every day!
I think the government should stand up to the BBC and scrap the licence fee. The corporation should be made to stand on its own two feet and compete with other broadcasters on an equal basis and not rely on this huge subsidy in order to gain an advantage.

Will you not watch any programmes produced by the BBC? Sky channels almost always recycle programmes produced by other companies, not produce original content. The BBC is worth supporting just for that.
Have you noticed, a BBC wildlife programme has 100% animal content. Satellite drivel has about 75% content showing somebody getting into a wet suite/boat/plane.

It is not worth the £130 odd pound a year that I pay for it... what's worse it the intimidation tactics that they use when trying to get the money off of you...
I lived in a student house.. a single house contract means a single house and only need one license.. they sent intimidating letters every week saying we were in violation.. at risk of £1000 fine each and bailifs turning up on doorstep... took 4 phonecalls and two letters to get them to stop hasseling us!
Then I moved in with my boyfriend after his mum died... his mum paid the license and obviously when bank account closed the tv peeps didn't get their payment.
A man turns up on the doorstep trying to caution ME for no TV license when I'd been in the house 4 days and had my own TV license listed at my other address!!!
They also hasseled my mum over my grandad's TV license when he died and the house was empty and on the market..
they are very nasty in their tactics..
Simply for all of those experiences the BBC should have no right to take that much money for the very few programmes of theirs that I actually watch.
AND they are now making us all buy digiboxes and freeviews so that the analogue can be turned into digital.. isn't that payment enough for watching TV??
Sorry I shall get off soapbox now... those people make me soo mad....grrrrr

I totally agree. As usual the film and programme line up for Christmas is pretty pathetic. Almost all the films are mega repeats or have already been shown this year. Some only a few weeks ago. Most people in this country want the Licence fee abolished.

Sky costs nearly double the TV license, before you even start paying for the film and sport channels.
I say, lets have a tax on computers, to keep the illiterates off Yahoo!

even if they made the beeb a pay per view station we'd still have to have a licence and the cost would keep going up but the cash would go straight into government coffers. I say leave things as they are watch it when you wish and pay for what you like elsewhere.

Agree...it's time the BBC stopped sponging off the taxpayer and started funding itself. BUT it never will, coz it would go belly up in a very short space of time.

If we all have to get digital, then we should be able to choose to have BBC channels or not. We shouldn't be forced to have it. That's extortion.
