Why is this such a big deal?

Why is pot so bad these days? I don't get it. My parents and other family members have told me that they would rather me smoke weed than smoke ciggs. I don't see the big deal everyone is makin about it. It only mellows me out. I don't go on violent rampages or kill people. Maybe it just depends on the person. Also all my family members call me an old soul just because I perfer classic rock to rap or all that junk. My stepdad can't get over the fact that my favorite band is Pink Floyd. Yes, I am an American. I live in south.
