We bought the set in Villedieux many years ago, and they are now starting to signs of wear and I am concerned that the exposed copper on the inside may be harmful and/or start to taint food.

The copper will not taint the food any more than other cookware coatings. In fact it's safer to use than teflon. For replating you can go to any chrome shop and they'll be happy to replate the pans with a fresh coating of copper.

I doubt the exposed copper is of concern, as there are copper mixing bowls.

However, if you want the pans replated, go to someone who does elecroplating. Should be able to find someone in the yellow pages. Probably much less expensive than going back to France, but not nearly as much fun.

I live in a city with a population of 150,000, and we have several electroplating companies. In Yahoo Search, I typed "electroplating, 43055" (my zipcode) and got 30 answers, the first three of which are companies in my city.

I think electroplating would be a little out of the question as far as money goes,. You can check around but I think after you check with a few places you'd agree. It would be prudent to just buy new.
