I bought a Linksys NH1005V2 "hub" for sniffing and it turns out that it is an unmanaged switch and it will not work. So now I'm wondering if I can configure my Netgear RP614 router to do the job.

It all depends on your router. Some have a console port that you can tap into via a serial connection and type terminal. Other routers also have a monitoring command on their CLI. Others yet use syslog to forward their real time traffic reports to a syslog server.

No, that router does not include an integrated managed switch. You either need a managed switch to set up a mirrored port or use a hub that all machines that you want to sniff pass all traffic through.

Not sure what you mean as a monitoring port? But alot of routers you can get come with software to monitor inbound/outboud traffic. Or known as a firewall/proxy? Need to elaborate a little more.
