You may have a CD-ROM (a cd player), but not a CD-RW drive. Your computer drive must be a CD-RW to write/burn CDs.

Make sure that you have a CD burner, not just cd-rom. If you do have the CD-RW drive then make sure you have the right type of CD to burn onto. It could always be a problem with just the burning part. If all this fails...return!

First as new cds usually have a problem being recognized by the drive, insert and eject it a couple of times. Secondly make sure the SW is not corrupt when you are burning the files. Most importantly, choose the correct format when burning e.g. data cd for MP3s, audio cd for .cdi

Are you sure its a cd burner? What software are you using to burn? How old is the burner, some dont support faster speed cdr's and such.. Go into device manager and see what it is says about the drive. Once the driver is uninstalled you dont "update" it again you install a new one, there is nothing to update..

Is it really a CD Burner? Look on the front of the drive, you should see where it says CDR/CDRW. If it doesn't say something like that it will not burn disks. You'll need to purchase a CD-Writer drive.
Some USB 2.0 burner drives will not work in USB 1.1 ports. They are only recognized as regular drives.

Are you sure you have a CD burner and not just a CD-ROM drive? Were you able to burn discs before, but not now? Check with your Windows Device Manager to see what kind you have. If it's just a CD-ROM, then it can't burn discs.

Your CD drive may only read CD's. Check to see if it says "cd-writer" on your drive. If it doesn't, then you may need to buy a separate drive. If it does, then there must be some other error
