I was told that once a baby is able to roll on its own it is no longer necessary to continue going in and putting them back on to their back. A baby, once able to roll, will be able to roll back if there is an issue.
As long as you are putting your baby to sleep on their back to begin with and on a firm, fitted mattress with no blankets (I suggest SwaddleMe blankets by Kiddopotamus or Miracle Blankets), pillows, stuffed animals etc, the risk of suffocation goes down.
If you are using crib bumpers I suggest buying Jolly Jumper Air Flow Bumper Pads. They cost about $20 at Walmart and reduce the risk of SIDS by allowing your baby airflow should they roll and burrow into the crib bumper pad.

If your son likes to sleep on his stomach than why make him uncomfortable?
According to the recent researches the risk of SIDS is something the child is born with. Don't rely on old hospital brochures and do research on this subject to find out what the newest developments are. You can also find some good answers here.
SIDS is not the same as suffocation. If you son was not born with the risk of SIDS, which is likely since SIDS occurs really rare, make sure he is not at risk of suffocation if you place positioners, pillows and blankets into his crib to keep him at his back.
I hope you do yourself and your son a favor by stop worrying and start sleeping. Take care.

No, darling, he's fine. The risk of SIDS drops off significantly after 16 weeks. Once he can roll over it is fine for him to sleep on his tummy. Just make sure there are no blankets or animals in the crib and remove the bumper. Of course the matress should be firm. Let yourself sleep and let your little mad sleep too. I use a sleepsak for my baby to keep him warm.

Do NOT use a sleep positioner...they actually contribute to SIDS. I had one and promptly got rid of it...check out some research on them on the web.
Around 5 months or so, the babies actually start sleeping on their stomach and it's OK! My doctor actually encourages it, because I had the same fears you did. As long as nothing is in the crib to obstruct breathing, ie stuffed animals, crib bumpers, he will be just fine! It's what they do and your son is at the proper age.
Of course, any doubts, check with your baby's doctor.

If your baby is strong enough to roll over, he is strong enough to hold or move his head from side to side. Make sure there is no loose bedding that he can get his face in and relax. The idea of putting babies to sleep on their back to prevent SIDs is a theory only. There hasn't been enough proof that that babies sleeping on their tummies is what causes SIDs.

You can buy a sleep positioner so that the baby will not roll during the night. If you dont have time to go out and purchase one, try proping up a pillow on either side of him...around his tummy and back, away from his face, i think it would be better to use a couple of small blankets instead of pillows.

Make sure the mattress is not soft for starters (most baby mattresses are not soft).
If the baby can roll, the chance of smothering is small. He is now agile and strong enough to move if his breathing is obstructed.
I was so afraid of SIDS I slept next to my kids until they were in 2nd grade LOL

This was the hardest time for me with my first child. They do have things to help them keep from rolling over. Here is an example of one:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2341851&cp=2255984.2256208
You can find them at Babies R' Us.
You should also consult your pediatrician to make sure that this is safe for your baby. S/he should have some good tips for you too.
Don't worry, everything will be okay.
Hope that helps.

Talk to your pediatrician and they will tell you when the baby is strong enough to flip themselves over...its time for you to stop worrying about SIDS... go to sleep!
