I dont understand why the husband (Sean Bean) didn't go through the same things as his wife...also..please explain why in the last scene the mom and daughter appear to be dead...?

One of the main things in the movie is for it to be weird and hard to understand- that adds to the creepiness. To put in a nutshell, there are 4 different 'Silent Hills' existing, all at the same time. There's the modern one, the one set in the past, the one filled with ashes, and the one at night when all the scary things come out. They're like parallel universes, I guess. All of them have something to do with the story of the town's history. The main character and her daughter are drawn into it because of her daughter's connection to the town. Her husband can't enter the same one she's in. The whole thing is, Once you Enter Silent Hill, you can never leave. Rose and her daughter are stuck in that ashy, foggy world, while her husband is in the modern world.
To really get some of the themes of the movie, you have to play the (awesome) games. I personally adored the movie, as I love the games. They're so creepy and weird, and so unlike anything else you've ever seen. The images in that movie is seriously like something from a nightmare- odd, and most of the time seemingly making NO sense. The storyline is a little complicated to follow, but once you start understanding it, its really awesome.
Try watching the movie a second time... I promise you'll catch on to things you missed the first time around.

Think back to the beginning of the movie when the wife and the daughter are trying to run away from the cop... and they hit the gate and spin out of control after seeing the little girl... that is when they actually enter the other "deminsion", after being knocked unconscious. From the very beginning of the movie, basically, they have already been knocked into the other deminsion.
The reason why Sean Bean is not in the same "reality" is because he was not knocked unconscious in silent hill. Well, that explanation is a little hard to understand, I think, but that is the best way to put it.

Earlier in the film, there was a chase with the cop and the mother and child. The cop chased after her and she got into an accident, as did the cop. They all died in the accident and live in the ghost world of Silent Hill. When the husband went there he saw the reality of Silent Hill. Nobody can see the creatures or the dead people unless you are dead as well. So basically yes, the wife/mother, the cop, and the child are all dead along with the rest of the people who lived in Silent Hill.

A mom has an adopted daughter that has like a good part (which is the one she has) and there's a bad part (which is the evil one). The daughter used to live in Silent Hill but her mom got raped or something and didn't know the father of her child so they murdered the child. It's very confussing but that's what my sister and I figured. I think the people are haunted because they're dead and won't leave.

well there in this town and every time the bell rings,
they are in a different dimension and thats when all the
evil thing come out. the husband (sean bean) didnt go through the same things because he didnt go to Silent Hill the same time that the mother and the daughter did. they r not dead they are just stuck in the gloomier dimension where there are no other humans from
their time.

yeah, when they ran off the hill thing, they all died and i guess were just sent to silent hill, so they were dead all along. in the film there is a scene where the police are searching silent hill and the ppl are still there but it's like different views. it's evening and raining with police and of course snowing with the ppl.

The girl and the kid were in a different dimension. Which is why the husband could smell her, but not see her.

they are not dead, they are just in another dimension or something, once they where going to silent hill, was snowing whit ash, and her husband was there in the same time, but there was no ash, and he smelled her parfume`, and.... bla bla bla.... they ar not dead, just wait for Silent Hill 2 :D

It's based on a Playstation game. Theres really nothing to expalin if you've played the game.
