When I think of jazz, I think of soul, self-expression, spontaneity and improvisation. The earlier jazz was much better than today's intellectual/egghead jazz. Players like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington and Count Basie really nailed it on the head. Jazz is a multi-cultural experience, being a combination of French impressionism (Debussy), ragtime music (Scott Joplin), Latin music, folk music, spirituals and more. Obviously, I'm quite a fan (love those jazz melodies).

Being at a show, and seeing people from all ethnic backgrounds together on stage expressing themselves, together, in a beautiful and spontaneous way. Underneath the whole scene is a flow of energy that is made available through the music come from the instruments of the musicians. Seriously. It's a beautiful thing.
Thanks for reminding me.
