Yours is a tender story and one that should be put to paper. Begin composing your poem using the words you feel express your thoughts the best. Rhyming your stanzas is good for poetry, but not always required as free prose. Strive for balance and rhythm as you form each stanza and upon its completion, go back and edit until all your spelling and punctuation is correct. Then contact another poet and ask for a critique. Asking close friends and relatives isn't the best approach because they'd hesitate at giving you the truth. You need the truthful critique, not one to gloss you over with empty praise that will mislead you. I wish you success with the poem. After its critique and you've polished it to the best of your ability, frame and present it to your husband.

Have you thought of finding song lyrics to express what you feel? Make a Google search, copy the music that expresses what you want to say, (make sure you let him know by writing at the end or telling him who wrote the song) then put it in something very special for him--flowers, art you make, candle, whatever. Good luck!
