Yours is a good question. Understand that the G is a symbol. As such, symbols stand for more than one definition. We all bring with us cognative baggage due to early life experience with certain symbols. For instance, a cross may mean salvation to a born-again Christian but may signal the enemy to a Muslim. Both are devout human beings, but the symbol had more than one meaning.

When a newly initiated member asks what a particular symbol means in Co-Masonry (the Order of Freemasonry to which I belong), he or she is in turn asked, "What does it mean to you?" That is not meant to sport with the Entered Apprentice; rather, it is seeking to 1) turn the person inward for answers (helps keep us from becoming a cult), 2) find out the stage of enlightenment of the person, and 3) enlighten ourselves with that person's insight.

We Freemasons can only "letter and half" things. We understand that we do not see the whole picture of anything. What appears to us to be one way, may be completely differently interpreted by you.

To some that letter G does stand for the Great Architect of the Universe. Certainly the heart of every Masonic Lodge. To some it may stand for Geometry. Masons would not get very far without knowing some of that. Perhaps it is the Worm Oroboros. I do not know.

May I give you one more bit of a clue to it all? In my Order, American Co-Masonry, we do not have a G in the center of the Square and Compasses. We have a Star with a Hebrew Yod. There, chew upon that a bit. *grin* Glad to be of service.

The reason why there is no straight answer is because the answer depends on what degree level you are at or if you are in the hidden inner or the outer open masonry. To outsiders and members of the open freemasonry the meaning of G will be given as meaning God (any god will do) or Geometry that goes with the symbols of the square and compass as handed down by the stone masons. But this is all a lie and as you move up through the degrees you will be told the true meanings. The meanings keep changing as you progress and you will discover all previous meanings are only a cover and a red hearing. Masons will never admit the true meanings as they swear oaths not to ever reveal the secretes of masonry otherwise they will be the recipients of a terrible death. The full answer would require an essay of about 5000 words so Ill just cut to the chase. Freemasonry is an occult religion that includes Eastern and ecoterical (sorry about the spelling) symbols and beliefs. The compass and square are arranged one over the other in a position of Sex. Hidden Freemasonry worship sex, the sun god Ra and ultimately Lucifer and Satin. All freemasonry symbols ultimately lead to satin. 95% of mason never know this fact and are never thought of as being worthy enough to be informed. Within witchcraft the circle is important and is often used to surround other symbols hence the compass. The circle also represents female, also the spirit world and the universe. The square represents the physical earth that can be measured and male. When it comes to structures the Egyptian obelisk, the masons have built one in Washington and Dallas, the Vatican has one and London has one call Cleopatra's needle represents the male sex organ and ra the sun god inhabits. The square can be used to mark out the footprint of the obelisk. The White house, St Pauls cathedral and the Vatican have the dome roof structure. these represent female and the compass is used to mark out the footprint. The two together always means sex. Another freemasonry symbol is the circle with a dot in the centre. This means the same as above. I could go on for days. This is just a taste. Most freemason don't know this much

Freemasons Symbol

It stands for both God and Geometry. God because all Freemasons believe in God (although the fraternity welcomes good men of all religious faiths as long as they believe in God), and Geometry because Freemasonry borrows its symbols from the ancient stone masons who built King Solomon's Temple, which wouldn't have been possible without a thorough understanding of geometry.

It should be noted that the 'G' inside the Square & Compasses typically only appears in North America. In the UK they don't choose to use the 'G,' and in parts of the world that speak languages other than English it wouldn't even make sense because their words for God and Geometry don't necessarily start with the letter 'G.'

What is the meaning of the letter G in the freemason logo?

The Letter G has been brought to you by ...........

The "Groovy Guru"... man !

I saw a news report by BBC were a London masonic lodge opened its doors to the media. There was an Indian (Asia) mason who showed the big golden G hanging from the ceiling. When asked what it means, he stated: "That it stands for God". The God described in the mason bible (by Albert Pike), is the god of light, and openly states at the end of the book that the god of light is satan.

So the g stands for satan - the god of the freemasons.

You'll never get a straight answer out of the masons - they'll tell you that it has dozens of meanings, because their father is the devil (the father of lies). Its a religious cult, you'll never get a straight answer out of them.

I asked a Mason that one time. I asked does it stand for God or Geometry, and he said "yes". Apparently they don't have any agreement on what it means because historically it could mean either one. Both God and Geometry have been found in their literature.

There doesn't appear to be a definitive answer on the topic--see good discussion at link below. Some speculate that it stands for "God," as well as "Goodness," "Geometry," and "Greegriment," an old Scots word meaning harmony or concord.

G might stand as latin word "LXX" The Septuagint or refers to the legendary seventy Jewish scholars. not sure though, but definitely not "GOD".
