Hi, Sara. 'A Passage To India' is a beautiful novel written by E.M.Forster. It was first published in 1924. It is different from his earlier novels. He presents a picture of the total relationship between India and Britain at a more personal level by showing three different English characters and their methods of approach: Fielding, the administrator, who relies on the head and who succeeds in giving justice but at the expense of general frustration. Mrs. Moore, who lives by the heart and affects particular individuals but finally suffers extinction. Adela Quested whose approach through an undereducated bodily psyche precipitates the main crisis of the novel but who becomes a person through the experience, gaining a better grasp of reality. These interrelated 'passages' to India give the novel a complexity which a reader may miss at first sight if he identifies himself too closely with a single character. Though I have read this novel long back, these three characters he produced still come to my mind whenever I remember this novel.

I have and it's a fantastic book. It centers around racism and tells the reader that it is bad. It's a novel written by e m forster. I think it's almost an autobiograpical novel aswell except the fictional plot, because only the names of the characters are different. Forster has actually been to India, himself. And he's been intimate with a native Indian, there. I also find Adela Quested to be a brave girl after what she's done to Aziz. If she was really that bad, she would have let Aziz stay in prison for years. She chose to confess the truth. I love Forster and his writing style. I also think that he would have supported Indians in such a case. I sense that Forster has a universal personality. He isn't a typical English patriot.

IM an Indian and live and work in India though I was previously a permanent resident of Australia. I havent read this book. It must be work reading? But with more books coming upfront, do you think this book still has the charm it had when it was first released? I would prefer to see a movie of Indiana Jones than read this book. What is your advise?
