My sister's birthday is Dec 27. Some people give her one gift and tell her "Merry Christmas and happy birthday."

What do you think of that? Are they just cheap?

This is the type of unfairness experienced by most people at this time of year. I spoke recently with a woman, whose brother has his birthday on December 25th. The family will first celebrate his birthday, with a gift, and a small cake, and then go on to the Christmas festivities. In this way he is made to feel that his birthday is remembered and is special.

She is right to be upset but a gift is something that is a gift only if it is given with love. I mean we can't demand a gift. If people are so cheap so to speak she should generously accept whatever they give in the Christmas spirit without feeling bad about it.

Some people may not be able to afford "all those gifts", however, birthdays are just that and should be celebrated as such.

My niece's bday is the 26th of Dec. Her family celebrates it just like a birthday.

I do think it's offensive of people to say that to your sister. It's not funny or proper.

I don't think they are cheap, I just think they don't think.

A good friend's birthday is December 27. She and her twin sister have always celebrated their birthday on Christmas. Not because they wanted to, but because that is the way it worked out. So, one year, we gave them a surprise birthday party on June 27th.

I know how she feels, it was my 50th birthday yesterday and for the first time in years I actually got birthday pressies, so I was really lucky this year, its awful when people give you a joint birthday/Christmas pressie, how would people feel if she did that to them on their birthdays, bet they'd be miffed, tell your sister from me to have a wonderful birthday and I hope this year she gets her hopes, dreams and wishes come true, merry Christmas.

Yes, they are just cheap. She deserves to have her own birthday. Unless, the present is expensive. For instance, one year my nephew wanted an electric guitar. So I bought him the guitar and a little amplifier with the understanding that this was also his birthday present because of the cost of the thing.

They are not necessarily being cheap she may get gifts of a higher value but then you dont mention wether this happens or not - however I can understand her being upset with it - how old is she? Maybe if she is old enough she should (or you could) organise a night out for her on her birthday and this may encourage people to give her seperate gifts.

I would say they could be cheap. My b-day is in November and I used to be able to get 1 bigger gift if I wanted instead of 2 separate smaller ones for my b-day and x-mas. (like a steroe ro something)
So maybe not- it depends on the gift! My mother in laws b-day is the 27th and we always get her a separate gift.

That's so cheap and too convenient for other's she should be receiving a gift for her/b-day and gifts to her in addition in the name of the Lord Christ.
And MANY more gifts this yr. to make up the cheapness of the past yrs.
*To avoid future rip offs, tell her to start celebrating her b-day in November from now on.

sad as one of my brother's birthday is 12-23. always try to get him something for his birthday as well as for Christmas.

this seems only fair as everyone else has a separate birthday so shouldn't my brother ?
