The problem could be a host of issues.

The first option could be a virus or spyware. If you don't have a virus scanner and/or spyware scanner, you should get one. There are free alternatives. Avast! and Clamwin are 2 good free antiviruses, and Microsoft defender is a good spyware program (if you have windows). You can also try Lavasoft AdAware for spyware. Run those programs and see what they find. See if this fixes the problem.

Check your background processes. If you're running lots of programs at once, you may be asking too much of your computer. Try shutting some down, and running things one at a time.

If it's not that, then the problem is probably one of 2 issues: heat and power supply.

Check for heat issues first, since it's cheaper and less complicated. Sometimes, computers will automatically shut down if the computer gets too hot. The first thing to try is to clean out the inside. Get some of the canned air (you can find it at most tech stores such as Best Buy or Circuit City), and blow away some of the dust that gathers. Pay special attention to the CPU (it should be the item on the motherboard with a big fan attached to it), any fans that are installed, and the graphics card, if you have one (The card that the monitor plugs into. If it plugs right into the motherboard, skip that step. Also, consider buying a graphics card if you don't have one. Using the onboard graphics may be overstressing your computer. Most computers have one already though.)

Make sure all the fans in your computer are working properly. You should at least have a fan on the CPU, a fan on the power supply (where the power cord connects), a fan on your graphics card, and a system fan, usually on the front or the side of the computer case. Make sure they all run correctly. One should suck cool air in, and the others should blow warm air out. If one of the fans is not working, replace it. A fan is only about $5, and may mean the difference between a working computer and a giant paperweight. While you're in there, make sure all the cables are secure so nothing jiggles and causes your problem. Close the computer up, and see if this works.

If you're still having problems, either your cooling system is inadequate (speak to a professional about upgrading the cooling system. Adding a couple of good fans may be all you need) or it may be a power issue. If your power supply is inadequate, then it may "surge" power and shut down or reboot the computer. If this is the case, you may need to replace the power supply. A good power supply can run from $50-$100 dollars, and can easily be installed. Most "pre-assembled computers" such as Dell or Gateway come with a power supply that's good for basic internet and word processing, but can become overtaxed if you use it for games. I suggest a power supply of at least 250 watts, but I recommend 400 watts.

Start out with the easiest and least expensive, and work your way up. See how long it takes to restart. Does it do it immediately, or only after playing for a long time? If it does it immediately, it could be a virus. If it's after a long time, that's probably heat buildup.

It sounds like overheating to me. You can try a multitude of things to try solve it. I would first suggest lowering settings to see if that helps. Another useful tool is to download coretemp. Google it and click the first link, this not only allows you to see how hot your CPU is getting but you can also adjust fan speed and tell it to yell a message at you if it reaches critical heat. If the problem persists and you find out it is from overheating, buy an aftermarket fan for your CPU.

It is because of the graphics card problem.
go to start>run> type dxdiag.exe
and then check your display properties. You need graphic card to play good games.
