Someone who accepts you for who you are totally and ignores your faults and praises your strong points. They are someone who will always make you laugh and who you can totally relax with. They are someone who even if you haven't seen them for a long time you can still feel at ease in their company. They are someone who will overcome travelling and distance to keep the friendship alive. They pick you up when you are down and know just what to say and do. They become like the family you choose for yourself.

Yes--your definition is correct.
and you can add someone who will come to your rescue no matter how many times you have to be rescued for the same thing. Who will listen to you complain about the same situation repeatedly.
And most importantly : will always take your side no matter what the circumstances are.

some one who will get out of bed in the middle of the night to talk outside in the freezing cold and pouring rain to listen to you moaning about how awful it was that, that boucer wouldn't let you into the club (7 hours ago)
especially when you'v already drunkenly told her on the phone twice!
