Well I have had a myspace for a couple months and I put a pic on there and my parents knew I had one but one night some of my friends were over at my house and her mom said," You have a pic on myspace??" Well I said yes. Then my step-mom freaked out.. and went crazy.. and said if I don't take it down I will be grounded. So my question is, Is Myspace really that bad? and if you had a 14 year old would you let her have a myspace with a couple of pics on it?

Well, I can see where she's coming from, having had kids that age at one time. She probably doesn't feel strong enough in her computer skills to be able to monitor you or doesn't want to deal with it. Also, it's widely known that sexual preditors are lurking about myspace.com and the company is trying to deal with that. If you set your profile to Private and only allow your true friends (ones that you know from school or your neighborhood) and family, you would actually be quite safe. Members of our family all have myspace profiles and we use it to share information, announcements, pictures, videos, etc. So it can be a very nice tool for families and friends. NEVER post personal information like your full name or the actual town that you live in, the name of your school, etc. Parts of your profile can be seen by the public, even if it's set to Private.

My kids are all 27, 26, 22, 19, 17, and 16 (most are step kids) now but we had similar issues when they were younger with other internet tools.

If you are on myspace and you are 14, you should have your profile set to private. This way you control who sees what. I've been there for some time now and have met alot of nice people but a few scammers. Be very careful and be very non-trusting of all who ask to be "your" friend. You do the inviting!

the thing with myspace is that when u put ure picture on...or something to expose u off to the outside world...that information that can personally identify you as a person makes u easily targetted if someone really wants to get to u..not necessarily to flirt with...but there are those "predators" out there.. so...it happens...and myspace is more common in tht than any other site where u put ure profile

No not really. Yeh, nearly every young person has a picture on it, your step mum is probly going crazy because she is worried about some strange person looking at it. I would let my 14 year old have a picture on it as long as it wasnt too revealing if you know what i mean, also you could set your profile to private so only people and friends who you know can view it.

Straight up...It's a web site that child molesters and pedophiles use to prey on young teen agers. it is the number one site for hackers, worms, Trojans and virus's. It is very dangerous for you to put all your personal information on. If you think any of this is a farce, just call your local police dept and ask them how many case's they have with MY SPACE involved in the case. listen to your Mom, she knows and you can find out the real skinny on the web site your self. good luck and be safe.

I would say yes, it is bad for childern like me because it could show nasty pictures, bad words, bad videos, and alot more, of course I don't go on it, but I am pretty sure I know what is on it. People can ask information and you accidently give it to them, they hack your computer, get your emal-address. I would say it is very bad, try not to get use to it.

It can be bad. I would worry about my daughter putting her pictures up there but it would depend on how big the pictures were. Also, it's probably not a good idea because of all the personal information out there. Predators...........
