Solid going to gas is called SUBLIMATION.

Solid to Liquid: Melting
Liquid to Solid: Freezing
Liquid to Gas: Evaporation
Gas to Liquid: Condensation
Solid to Gas: Sublimation
Gas to Solid: Deposition

Hope that helps.

This is a state of change.
Evaporation- Liquid to a gas
Freezing- Liquid to Solid
Melting- Solid to Liquid
Condensing- Gas to Liquid
Sublimation/Subliming- Solid to gas/ Gas to Solid
Examples of sublimation is when dry ice turns to carbon dioxide.

submimination

However whilst it will work for things like carbon doixide and caffine at atmospheric pressure they change directly from solid to gas without a liquid phase if you significantly alter the atmospheric pressure you can induce a liquid phase.... very boring I know but there you go

Sublimation.

And iodine provides an example of sublimation at normal temperature and pressure.

It's called sublimation. Good examples of this is dry ice (frozen CO2) into gas and mothballs subliming into gas.
