Thomas George Lawson was an African historian and administrator in Sierra Leone. He was educated in Freetown and appointed Government Interpreter in 1852. As such, he negotiated all the government’s affairs upcountry. He later served as Chief Inspector of Police (1856-1888). His reports were compiled by his successor, J.C.E. Parkes of the Aborigines Dept, in 1887 into a document titled ‘Information regarding the different districts and tribes of Sierra Leone and its vicinity’ (PRO CO 879/25/African No. 332).
