Books make a person think more deeper in many ways. Films as good as they are can never be perfect like a book can be. Something is lost in translations.

Most of the time the book is much better than the movie. It gives you more insight into how the characters are feeling and what they're thinking. There's just more to them, really. That doesn't mean the movies are bad, though- look at Lord of the Rings!
For some people (namely, the ones who don't like to read) the movies are better, because they lose interest in written word after a short period of time. I think that when a director/producer has a genuine love for a story or book, the movie will represent the book in an awesome way, and put a beloved story on the big screen. I can't think of any event in which the movie was BETTER than the book, though.

Yes, becuse you get way more details. Example: Book may describe the scenic background and the thoughts of multiple characters and their conversation as it happens. To capture such a simple thing on film is more difficult.
Plus a film can never cover hundreds of pages of detail as it is laid out in a book. When a book comes out first, Movies are always an intrepretation of books.
Try reading one whole page in a book and picturing it's translation to a movie, it's like the good old saying "The front page of a newspaper has more information in it than a 30 minute news broadcast".

Definitely books are better. Most of the times I get disappointed when I see the movie because its never the way I imagined it to be.
A single word, phrase or line can describe something a whole movie might never be able to.

Books are usually better than the movie because they go into deeper detail. There is one exception though. The book version of Mary Poppins is awful. I hate it! It's like the total opposite of the movie! In the book Mary Poppins is very mean and rude and stuck up!!! And in the movie Dick Van Dyke's character is in almost every scene of the movie. In the book it only mentions him in one chapter. The movie of Mary Poppins is so much better because it has so much more in it.

I would say almost always. Due to money, time and visual constraints (though computers can do amazing things for effects etc these days) I think our own imaginations and a good writers words can make a much better picture in our heads or hearts than a movie can. Though for good ideas or bombblasting, horizon zooming views-you can't top hollywierd.

I think it depends on the book and movie..
a non war example is the natural...
in the book, roy hobbs strikes out...I was like WTF!!
IN the movie,. he launches that baby out of the park at the end...
Dialogue is all dependant on how it is written,..
the band of brothers series on tv was much more enjoyable than the book
as far as older movies,. remember, the english language has evolved some, so thus theres bound to be things that dont really sound right to us or our generation

I think boooks are ALWAYS better than the movies. The books are very descriptive and you get to use your imagination for place settings which is more fun. Whereas, with movies it's all there for you and half of the times, they skip out important scenes from the books.
