It might depend on how old your horse is. My horse is 29 so I have to be careful not to give her too many treats. When she was younger, we put a little bit of corn oil and syrup in her feed (to give her a little treat while eating something to make her coat better). Alfalfa hay is also something that the horse(s) you have might like. It is sort of tough, but has a sweet taste. It has been proven that sugar cubes are not the best thing for horses. The common answer is apples and carrots, which horses love, but you could make a variety of great treats.

Hollow out an apple and stick some clover, bits of carrots, and a little bit of malasas in it. They LOVE it.

To make mash (simply put), you get around 2 cups of bran and mix it in with about 1 1/2 cup of warm water. Stir well so that the bran mash has the consistency of cereal. Don't make the water too hot, because it can hurt your horse's mouth. Give him however much he would get if it was his grain.

Hope this helped!

1/2 cup rice
1/2 cup grated carrots
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups complete horse meal or any grain mix
1/4 cup seaweed meal
1/8 - 1/4 cup salt
1/2 cup Lucerne Chaff
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup plain flour
1/4 cup rolled oats
1 egg
1/2 cup milk

Combine all dry ingredients, mixing well. Add vegetable oil and milk and mix until all are combined. Add the egg and mix again. If the mixture isn't moist enough, add a little more water or milk. Cover the container with Gladwrap and leave overnight. Feed as a treat.

How to make...Hot Mash
Measure Bran into a pail. Add warm water and stir. A good mash is wet but not sloppy. Try to make it so it has the consistency of hot breakfast cereal. Bran holds heat very well, so be careful not to use hot water, or your horse might burn his tounge.

How to make...Horse Cookies
(makes 4-8 cookies) 1 cup all wheat flour, 1/4 cup oatmeal, 1/4 cup horse's favorite grain, 1/4 cup molasses, about 1/2 cup (or less) water. Mix flour, grain, and molasses together. Stir in water until you have a thick dough. Make into golf ball sized amounts. Place on cookie sheet. Bake in pre-heated oven (350 degrees farenheight) for 10-15 minutes.

Oats and molasses mixed in mashed apples my horse would do back flips for that!
when my horse had a little cold the vat gave me some pills that i had to melt in water, my horse would not drink it though so i added O&M and sugar cubes........ he had no trouble eating that! After all the pills were done he begged me to continue giving him the stuff....... w/o the pills of course.

my horse, lyric (a picky morgan), adores these treats called Pasture Cookies or something. Check out your local tack shop. the recipie is simple and its on the back of the package. its made of molasses, grains, and a little bran. or something like that.

also try mints--lyric loves them, and shes really picky too

You can get mash pellets from animal stores. Some people say sugar, but it has been proven, sugar is not right.
