Think about it for a minute. Would baseball have deleted his membership from the hall? Let's use OJ Simpson for example. He murders two people but the NFL didn't remove his membership from Canton. What do you think the baseball writers would have done?

Wow, great question! I'd have to think that baseball, as an entity, would have put a collar on the entire story. Perhaps in the same vein as the '60's media not making an issue of JFK's extra marital affairs. Just sweep it under the rug. There would have been several reasons I suspect not the least of which would have been trying to save the integrity of the game from a public prospective. The commissioner would quietly asked Rose to retire from managing and that would have been that. Baseball fans would never have known the difference. To them it would have looked like he just moved on.

But the bottom line is that, that particular scenario never happened, so we all have to live with the mess that reality has dealt us.

that's not a life-time ban. that is an eternal ban. Rose may be reinstated at the same time as that factor period expires. He has performed not some thing to deserve reinstatement. the basically element diverse between 1989 Rose and 2009 Rose is that he's 20 years older (and, one supposes, 20 years extra entrenched in his procedures). the finished participant/manager massive massive difference is beside the point. Rose the guy proved himself untrustworthy. Rose nonetheless holds the record for most occupation outs, and could for truly a at the same time as. ---------- 2d possibilities should be EARNED. Rose hasn't performed that. Rose has not started doing that. And he did not make a mistake. He made a foul selection, and made it back and back, and made it with finished information of the in all probability sanctions if he replaced into to be stuck. undesirable judgements could have undesirable outcomes. end with the damn Rose apologia! He knew what he replaced into doing, and he's performed not some thing diverse considering.

I don't feel that they would do anything at all. Then again, I can't see why he isn't in Cooperstown anyway. Charlie Hustle was an outstanding player. What he did as a manager has nothing to do with his achievements as a player. I do understand that he was gambling on his own game, and that people think theirs a moral issue there. But hey, gambling is gambling! He was using his own money, not team money. Keep him out of the Hall of Fame as a manager, but he totally deserves the honor as a player! The "Big Red Machine" just wouldn't have ran the same without him!!

He would be out. The fact that he isn't in is bogus. He deserves it as muich as Ruth, Mayes, Aaron, or Banks. He holds 13 records. It is not the hall of morals, it is the hall of fame. I think he accomplished enough to make him a contender. Babe Ruth was a woman beating drunk and he is in the hall and has a candy bar. OJ wasn't kicked out because he was found not guilty. OJ is one of the top 5 backs of all time so don't hate on him.

Nothing...since he went over the line by betting on games he was a participant in, getting busted AFTER retirement would have been meaningless...since he was no longer playing at that point.

Very good question. It would appear that there are double standards in sports. I guess it depends on what the sport is and not the moral issue.
