How would you propose to someone or want to be proposed to on christmas day?

My friends got engaged over Christmas. he had "mailbox ornaments" on his tree. They each had a message in it like:
"(Insert name), I love you."
"You are the love of my life."
"I want to spend the rest of my life with you"
(etc)
The last mailbox he handed her contained the engagement ring.

OK I like the mailbox idea...but I love my idea more...lol
Is she kind of expecting it?? If so you need to have a GREAT idea that will totally through her off...
Here is that idea...
Get the ring! Then go buy a necklace with a "Key" as the pendant. Rape it all pretty in a box and put a cute bow on it and all that good stuff. Also get her another Christmas Gift. On Christmas day make it a great day for her. Make her think she is getting proposed to. Then when it comes time to open gifts let her open the "other gift you got her". (If she is a catch then she won't be like, "Where is the ring" and she will be a little sad on the inside but she will be ok) Then go on with the day and THEN!!!
If you life together (if you don't live together read on..)
When its time for bed GO TO BED and turn off the lights. Wait a few sec's then get up and turn them back on. Tell her you forgot to give her a gift. Then give her the Key necklace. When she opens it and sees the key tell her that is the key to your heart. And you want her to hold on to it forever. Then get on one knee and open a box with the ring and ask her to spend the rest of her live with you....Tell her how much you love her and how much you want to be with her...
If you do not live together....
If she leaves do it right when she is about to walk out the door (do what I said above) and if you are leaving then leave....and ring the doorbell after you leave...so she will have to come back to the door)

Buy a cute ornament for her tree and have her open it up and inside the box, is the ring. Or hide the box inside the tree and have her look for it.

I personally think it is cheesy to propose on a holiday. I think its far more relevant to propose on a day that is more significant for the two of you (i.e date of first kiss, first date) if anything. The holiday proposal is too cliched for my taste. So my advice is to wait for a different day.

Because they are both 'big' times, I don't get mixing the stress of the holidays with the additional stress of proposing.
Eat a piece of coal and poop out a diamond? She'll never forget it.

Think about what touches her heart and go for it.
Just don't start it out with saying, "Ho, Ho, Ho!" She might think you are calling her a name bad name.
