The photo is also on the Snopes.com website. The link is http://www.snopes.com/photos/animals/camelshadows.asp
I think it is a hoax because the shadows are 20 times the camel height. That happens at sunset, However the height will be 20 times and the bredth normal. In this case the ration of height to bredth has been preserved. Do you think it is a hoax ?

The photo appears real to me. The shadows are roughly the correct aspect ratio of a camel, but you're confusing the camels' height with their width (which is what you see directly from above), and "20 times" is an exaggeration. It just seems like that due to the camels themselves being so inconspicuous. Camels are indeed very narrow relative to their height, but they seem even more so due to their being so well camouflaged (they are the same color as the sand). Blow up the picture and trace and measure their outline carefully. The shadow camels' "height" is only about 5 times the actual camel's width; about the same ratio as a person.

It is a hoax, examine the shadows and notice that No camel blocks light onto a camel to its left and the shadows of all camels are full shadows, this is impossible .

I think you would be pretty hard pushed to coordinate both the exact timing of the sun and placement of the camels, so no I don't think it is a hoax

naa its not a hoax . The reason why its big its beacuse the camels were on top of the hill and the shadows were pointing downward.

Not a hoax. I have taken pictures of things from above before, and you get remarkably similar results.

The picture is amazing. It is not a hoax. Being a photographer for National Geographic is held in the highest esteem. No one would submit a "doctored" photograph.
