Try switching off your firewall briefly.. if you can then get Ie working you know there is a problem with your firewall.. maybe IE has been updated and the new IE has not yet been given permission by the firewall to access the internet
Good Luck

1. If you have window's messenger live, go to tool's then connection there you will see if you are connected to your server or not.
2. the other possibility is that ntl is carrying out what they call essential maintenance in your area, and you have loss of service
3.and lets not forget the cable modem, before you switch on your computer, pull out the power cord to the modem, then wait for about 30 seconds to 1 minute then plug the power cord back in, wait until you have the green lights on, they will be,
power,,enet,,sync,,ready
then switch on the computer and see if you have a connection to the Internet. if this fall's then telephone ntl on this number

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

I`m with NThelLl as well and have experienced similar problems.
check the service status on the NTL home page, It wouldn`t surprise me if they were`nt working on something in your area.
Have you Got NTL as your home page, check by going to internet connections on the control panel.
If all else fails give them ring and see what what the tech geeks say
To attempt fixing network connectivity problems, click Tools, and then click "Diagnose Connection Problems..."

It could be any number of things, can you use system restore, and go back a few days to when it worked? Any new programs installed, or changes made? You may also try unplugging your cable modem, then plugging in again, this would make your PC grab the IP again. Scan for adware & viruses..they cause much trouble.

in explorer, go to tools, internet options, connections and lan. choose auto detect settings.. hit ok and close ie. open it again and WAIT.. check the firewall.. or use another computer to download firefox and install it..
FireFox is a great alternative to ie.. and it gets less virus's :)
