When I was in Bucks, my neighbour used to stand in his front room and paint himself green. People were complaining about it. I thought he was ok. A bit strange maybe. He was an old Russian Refusenik and had been in a Gulag. Met him down the pub once and he invited me back to see some art work, which I thought was pretty good. He'd put a couple of dormer windows in the loft and made a nice studio out of it.

Why should anyone have taken him away? And why did the neighbors complain? Presumably his window was open so they could see. Did he wear any underwear when he painted himself green? Then it wasn't indecent exposure.

Artists get funny ideas some times. A bit of tolerance can be worth a great deal to a neighborhood with an eccentric artist. Someday you may be able to say "I knew him when he used to stand in his front room and paint himself green."

This is assuming, of course, that his art is any good. Is it?

I don't have an idea what a Gulag is but leave him be, maybe he just wanted to entertain you and the rest of the neighbourhood, i think it must have looked quite funny. Sounds like he is eccentric. Offer him a glass of whatever you are having and wish him well, it is Christmas and we allllll want to be happy and kind to others , don't we.Enjoy your Christmas, take care:)))))

He sounds kind of weird but I can't judge as I might do worse had I been in a Gulag

I think painting yourself green at this time of year is a splendid way to save money instead of splashing out on a Christmas tree.

I recommend that you get hold of some of his work.
If Van Goth were your neighbour they may well have locked him up as well. If he was not a danger to himself or others he should be allowed to do anything he want in his own house.

Personally, from reading your 'report' of how he behaved, I wouldn't have taken him away. It seems, to me, that many people have 'strange' ideas on conformity.

I'll tell you what does puzzle me. Why did you ask the same question in Jokes & Riddles? Maybe you find it 'funnier' than you're letting on.

Did he ever paint designs on his body after the green paint?
He sounds interesting.
He must've loved Saint Patrick's day. and drinkin' green beer at the pup too.

i dont think they should have taken him away. all they had to do is ask him nicely not to do that in public then he might have been gfine about it. if he is an artist then he was probably just expressing himself in a way that he understands.
