I took 3 GRE tests several years ago: the general, the English Lit and the World History. I bought study books from Barrons, did the sample tests, then read a lot of books about the parts I was weak in. I gave myself about a year to prepare, and it really paid off. The tests are not easy, but they're not too difficult if you prepare beforehand. By prepare, I mean S-T-U-D-Y! Good luck!

the best thing would be to identify your goal - i mean, the year/term u'l be applying for higher studies so that u can plan your schedule and book for GRE..
that apart, to prepare, you should have a two pronged approach - concentrate on verbal and quants.. if u are strong in verbal or quants then concentrate on the other..
as for as sample papers r concerned, u can get preparatoy materials/books like Barrons, Kaplan etc.. which'l have a lot of sample tests - that should be more than sufficient.. also u'l be getting a cd having 2 tests, from ETS when u book for GRE exam.
