Because the "United Kingdom" is a legal name of the united countries.
Same as, in some countries, the main roadways are (or were) called "The King's Highways".
Usually countries have a King ... though in the "British" experience the current and the previous reigns by Queen have been long reigns. And, I think, the Nederlands have had three consecutive Queens Regnant.

The UK was created during the reign of Queen Anne. The British monarchy is set up so its much more likely that a king will inherit the throne instead of a queen. There have been few reigning Queens in history so we don't change the name if a Queen is on the throne. Good question though!

A territory named for it particularly is head constantly takes the masculine type. Kingdom, Principality, Dukedom, Marquessate, Earldom, Viscountcy, and Barony; no longer Queendom, Princessipality, Duchessdom, Marchionessate, Countessdom, Viscountesscy, and Baronessy. it particularly is because of the fact regularly, that's particularly troublesome genetically (and customarily legally) to finally end up with a woman working it. whilst one does, they are dealt with very very nearly as though they have been a guy. case in point, the Queen continues to be the Lord of Mann and (disputably) the Duke of Lancaster, no longer woman of Mann and Duchess of Lancaster. maximum titles a minimum of enable the holder to alter it to a female type if needed, regardless of the indisputable fact that.
