LEXICON: A lexicon is usually a list of words together with additional word-specific information, i.e., a dictionary. Lexicon is a word of Greek origin (λεξικόν) meaning vocabulary. When linguists study the lexicon, they study such things as what words are, how the vocabulary in a language is structured, how people use and store words, how they learn words, the history and evolution of words, types of relationships between words as well as how words were created.

The term is also sometimes used in the title of an encyclopedic dictionary or an encyclopedia, especially for 19th century works and those written in German

DICTIONARY: A dictionary is a list of words with their definitions, a list of characters with their glyphs, or a list of words with corresponding words in other languages. In a few languages, words can appear in many different forms, but only the lemma form appears as the main word or headword in most dictionaries. Many dictionaries also provide pronunciation information; grammatical information; word derivations, histories, or etymologies; illustrations; usage guidance; and examples in phrases or sentences. Dictionaries are most commonly found in the form of a book. Some dictionaries are also found in electronic portable handheld devices. Most dictionaries are produced by lexicographers.

Different words. A prickly pear is a type of cactus, I think it is the source for "nopalitos," someone told me if you boil it right you can get a mildly hallucinogenic compound. Aloe is a totally different type of plant, often used for a skin remedy (sunburn, scratches, etc.)

Dictionary is a dictionary, definies words. A lexicon just lists the words, like a roll sheet (I think). The website http://coral.lili.uni-bielefeld.de/~ttrippel/datr/node3.html indicated that a lexicon is more general than a dictionary, for instance an encyclopedia would also be a lexicon
