Towing companies are private businesses, and as such make their own hours of operation. Some provide 24 /7 service, some only work during the day. A lot depends on the size of the company.

Some towing companies only have one or two trucks, some have a large fleet. The smaller companies usually have shorter coverage hours than the large ones, due to limits on the number of hours a commercial driver can operate.

AAA and other auto clubs contract with towing companies to provide service. Police departments usually also have a contact list of approved towing services, that they can call for a disabled motorist (or an impound).

It probably depends, but I work for a local PD and we have several in our town that stay open all night. We work with them for overnight tows. Your best bet is to plan ahead, call and ask a couple what their hours are. That way you will know in advance who to call in a pinch!
