Yes it does, your lady will compare later with her friend and see what they got.
Generally I think some thing the range of 1 to 2 should be affordable (US$800~5000) and quite visible.
But try not to burn too much for it, because it does not really have any investment and resale value.
It just a stone for your lady to be proud about with her friend.
don't buy some thing that add up to the carat(don't small little diamond surronding the main diamond), these smaller diamond we call it "skin" is the crump cut out from a bigger diamond. No real value.

Of course the size of the carat and the grade depicts the price. I just went through about six months of researching different carat sizes and color clarity. Currently some of the brick and mortar jewelery stores are offering almost as good a deal as on-line. I purchased mine on-line (1-1/2 carat with slight blemishes not visible to the naked eye, but under a microscope I can see them). I got a good deal, clarity looks great. But if I had purchased it from a store I would have paid several hundred dollars more, but able to "upgrade" later which I feel makes a huge difference.

Some women don't care. THEY ARE RARE.
MOST ALL women already have in their heads a *very* exact picture of the exact ring with the exact cut in the exact setting with the exact carat size of the exact diamond with the exact color next to the exact french manicured fingernail on the exact day while wearing the exact dress and the exact shoes under the exact hairdo in the exact place with the exact guy. IF YOU GET MY DRIFT.
And if you deliver ANYTHING BUT that EXACT ring, may god have mercy on you because you will NEVER hear the end of it.
In other words, the smartest approach is to take her shopping for - a new cute little tee shirt. When you walk by Tiffany, say "let's pop in for fun." Then you can say - "for kicks, what does your ideal wedding / engagement ring look like?"
She'll take it from there.

No, it’s the look that matters. It does not have to be expensive as long as it looks good...I would say a good price to spend on a Wedding Ring is about $1,000 - $2,000. Remember, its something she will have FOREVER! Also, It will most likely be the most expensive thing you ever give her. If that is not in your price range then DO NOT SPEND THAT MUCH! You can always spend like $300.00 on a little ring and then maybe (do not feel like you have to) on a later anniversary you can surprise her with an upgrade! Don't tell her what your plan is, just one anniversary surprise her by taking her to the Jewelry store (I would suggest you go ahead of time and pick out a few that you know you an afford) then let her pick out what she loves from those. Sometimes getting a cheep ring is best and then upgrading. You don't want to go all out and later have her ask you to upgrade....know what I mean? But make sure that you get what YOU can afford. She should love you not the ring (although she will fall in love with the ring at first sight). Any girl who cares more about the ring size then about the meaning of the rings needs a kick in the butt on her way out your door. Oh yeah, also make sure whatever ring you get its a set (both Engagement and Wedding band) the band does not need to have anything on it, but some SMALL diamonds are always pretty if you can afford it. Also, keep this in mind. The ring my husband got me comes to a point. I’m always hitting it one everything and I’ve bent the prong things that hold the diamond in a few times. Also I am always scratching my husbands arm with it. lol
I found some pretty ring ideas; I know being a guy must make this job hard, so I hope this helps...
Look at what jewelry she wears, get her a gold ring if she wears gold and get her a silver ring if she wears silver…if she wears both go with silver or what she wears most. If she does not wear anything then go with silver.
All the rings I’m showing you are just ideas….you can get them in either gold or silver.
I think this ring is VERY pretty: http://www.ice.com/customer/product_detail.jsp?product=118095961&sourceID=yahdat_01&srccode=cii_1038957&cpncode=10-32827955-2
This ring would be great with a small diamond in the middle: http://www.debebians.com/140tabadienr.html
This is pretty, maybe get a smaller diamond to make the ring cheaper: http://www.debebians.com/14go0mipaenr1.html
I LOVE ring also, but maybe use a different diamond (I like the Pear or Oval shape diamond)

This one is nice: http://www.ice.com/customer/product_detail.jsp?product=92649753&sourceID=yahdat_01&srccode=cii_1038957&cpncode=10-32828106-2
I hope this helps, good luck and congrats! Make sure she is the one before you ask her. If you need anything else please feel free to email me. I have lots of good advice and I’d like to think I’m not the average women. I’ve been married for 2 years (this December 30th) and we are as happy as every.
My one big tip is NEVER FIGHT!! I have NEVER in the 6 years I’ve know my husband yelled at him or said, “I Hate you” to him or about him and I’ve never called him a jerk or any other horrible word. If you are mad then talk it out, NEVER talk bad about the person you love. Also he has never yelled at me or called me names!

Everyone is right. Get what you can afford. Think of the style of ring she may like instead of the size of the diamond. I am a simple girl and my husband could afford a lot more but bought me a heart shape solitare ring. If she is that materialistic then you don't need her. It will be a disasterous financial struggle down the road.

Yes, but cut, clarity and color also matter.
You probably want to go with these minimums:
Color: G-H (some color but you won't notice with the naked eye)
D,E,F are better but you will paying a lot more money
Clarity: VS1 or VS2 (some dirt in the diamond but you won't notice with the naked eye)
FL, IF,VVS1, VVS2 has less or no dirt in them, but again you won't really notice the difference and you will pay a lot more for these
Cut: you want at least VG (very good)
In short, get a diamond with
Cut: VG
Color: G
Clarity: VS1
after you achieved this minumums then get a diamond with the most carat you can afford!
check out http://www.bluenile.com and look for "learn about diamonds"
good luck

If it is a basic ring, YES! However, if you search and find a ring that fits her personality, her character, then the size of the diamond is not a big issue. Just don't get a cheap cracker jack box ring, and don't get an extravagantly expensive one that will put her in danger of robbery!

The size of the diamond is completely up to you. In the past, I would add up what I make in a three month period and look for the best quality ring in that price range. She will love it, because she knows you had to save and sacrifice to afford it. It would be best to save ahead of time and pay cash so you don't take any debt into your marriage. There will be plenty of that to come. Congratulations to you and Best Wishes to your bride to be.

Well I guess it depends on your girlfriend. Just make sure it is a v v s . That's clarity of the diamond , vvs is a perfect diamond. You can buy a bigger diamond for less money if the quality isn't as good. This is an investment because diamonds never lose their value. That's why you want a perfect diamond. Congratulations!!!

It does to some women. If you know her enough to want to propose, then you'll know if she's the type of woman who is materialistic enough to care about the size of the carat vs. the fact that you want to be with her forever.
