Right-handedness is the most common. Right-handed people are more dextrous with their right hands when performing a task.

Left-handedness is less common than right-handedness. Left-handed people are more dextrous with their left hands when performing a task. About 17% of people are lefthanded.

There is strong evidence that prenatal testosterone contributes to brain organization. One theory is that high levels of prenatal testosterone results in a higher incidence of left-handedness. This could be why there are more left-handed males than females and also the increase incidence of left-handedness in male twins.

hope this helps

One who is right-handed is more dextrous with one's right hand than with one's left hand: one will write with their right hand, and probably also use this hand for tasks such as personal care, cooking, and so on. According to different studies, 85% to 90%[1] of the population is right-handed, while most of the remaining are left-handed. A very small percentage of the population can use both hands equally well; a person with this ability is deemed to be ambidextrous.

According to scientific theory, the right-side of the body is controlled by the left hemisphere of the brain, and vice-versa. In right-handed people, the left hemisphere of the brain is the dominant hemisphere
Being right-handed does not always mean that the favoured foot is also on the right side. When playing football for instance, many people prefer using their left foot rather than the right, despite being right-handed

I've heard the theory that right handedness can protect the heart. If the right hand does most of the work, less physical stress will be placed on the heart, which is on the left side of the chest. This is just a hypothesis though...

If you look at the ratio of right-handers to left-handers, it correlates perfectly with the world population distribution. That is, 90% of the world live in the northern hemisphere and are righties.
