I have had a number of answers that had numerous votes as best answer, then someone reported it for abuse to remove the answer!
Why does yahoo allow this, and why do they not investigate the perpetrators?

People do this knowing that the system is automated.... that way your reply is removed and they get the points..nothing you can do about it other than write Yahoo

I'm not sure what having the most votes has to do with it?

That is common even with abusers as they either have several IDs or there are a group of friends who vote each other answers as the best (called "point gaming").

It is probably because there are so many abuses, and reports of abuses, that they cannot investigate all of them.
In my opinion, they take the approach of deleting them all and figure that those innocently accused will appeal. The one who were doing something wrong will not.

If you feel that your answer has been removed unjustly, or received a violation notice for something you feel was not a violation, you should report it in the Yahoo Answers forum under the topic " Wrongful Violations & Suspensions".

I had a joke removed It was a silly joke about a New Yorker driving in Texas, after I had chosen someone for best answer it was reported as abuse. So It maybe someone jealous I did not pick their reply or the one who said they were from New York and my joke was not funny.
I also had an answer removed and fought that one because it was not a fair removal, this person asked the riddle about the child being in a car wreck with his dad and the dad being killed and when the kid goes to the ER the Dr. says I cannot work on this child, he is my son.
I asked if we were so archaic that this still puzzled people(after 20 years of it being told)
and was reported for abuse, upon questioning it, I was told that "trolls" like to report the things they don't like just out of spite. They use the "not a question or answer" option to do this.

You are going to get nailed because of some violation regardless of how well thought of your post was. Watch your six, play by the rulse and you can ask just about anything. Its been a while since that last happened to me.
