Baby delivery is the woman's choice. Let her make her own decision. The doctor and you can advise to a point.

I too was a worried first time mother if there are no complications with your wife's pregnancy I would suggest having a normal delivery. A Cesarean section is an option but there are also alot of risk factors associated with it. What is your wife's main concern? That the baby will be too big? or that she won't have the energy or stamina to be able to push? What your wife is going through is very normal. I would also suggest that you and your wife attend Lamaze classes speak with her ob/gyn, nurse mid-wife or some other professional that can assist you. Good Luck.

Well, home delivery is an interesting ecperience. Depending on what state you live in, some states have centers where you can have an underwater birth. Its quite interesting and a smart idea if you think about it. The baby eases out naturally. And its actually more comfortable and calming for the mother. (which is ultimatly what you want/need) But of course u can always do it the regular way, in a hospital. But I seriously recommened the under water way. It truly is better AND this way, you dont have doctors everywhere and the baby isnt stressed either. The baby doesnt have lights in there face or people pulling at them and everything about it is just so much better. Good Luck, and Congrats!!!

My first thought when I found I was pregnant was labor. It is quite scary in the beginning especially when you aren't so ready to give birth. At the end you are extremely pregnant and all you want is that baby to come out. In the beginning, you aren't so uncomfortable so the though of labor is kind of scary. It's normal. She'll become more comfortable with the inevitable as she gets closer to D-day. Just reassure her that everything is going to be fine and you will be right there for her when the time comes. Trust me, at the end of pregnancy she'll be ready.

Nearly nobody would suggest surgery without clear reasons for it.
I suggest the book "The Thinking Woman's Guide to a Better Birth."
http://www.hencigoer.com/betterbirth/
The guy who said "like Britney" was not as dumb as he looks. It's unlikely that she wants to be on her back.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lithotomy_position
"However, the position is not conducive to a smooth labor as it constricts the birth canal, puts pressure on the coccyx, prevents the fetal ejection reflex from occurring, and does not allow the mother to move during the process, therefore increasing pain in labor. Today, few birth centres or labour wards in Western countries use the lithotomy position for active labour. One notable exeception, however, is the United States, where the lithotomy position remains common for active labor."
The person who suggested water birth was not nuts, either. It's worth looking in to.

C-sections are considered major surgery, and the recovery time is alot longer. The riskd and complications are higher. It is more painful after the birth of the baby...it literally hurts to sneeze or blow your nose. There is only some discomfort after delivering your child vaginally...so my advice would be to only choose a c-section in the event of an emergency.

I know natural childbirth (no meds) is more healthy and natural but I when I had my first child the meds made the delivery go smoothly and less painful. For a first time delivery definitely go with the meds! They make you feel a lot better.

if there are no complications, I would recommend the normal way! At this early point in her pregnancy, she should be basking in your joy, planning a nursery, thinking of names and doing some reading. If she's only going to worry that will solve nothing. Let nature take its course 'cause it's going to anyway.

C-sections should only be performed for emergency purposes because they aren't as convient as others make it seem. Inducing labor is risky too and should be for emergency reasons as well. Regular child birth with anestesia or a water birth would be a good choice.

I think the only time a woman should have a c-section is if the doctor says it is medically necessary for either the mother or child.
