I think Murali is.

Though Shane Warne holds the record for most wickets in the Test Matches as of now, I consider M.Muralitharan as the better bowler than Shane Warne due to following reasons:

1) Warne has taken 699 wickets from 143 Test matches,
whereas Muralitharan has taken 674 wickets from
110 Test Matches. If Muralitharan has also played
143 Test Matches, even if he takes one wicket in
each Test Match, he would have taken more wickets
than Warne.

2) Muralitharan has taken 425 wickets in one day matches
from 282 matches, whereas Warne has taken only 293
wickets from 194 matches, Even if Warne has played
same number of one day matches as played by
Muralitharan, he would not have even come nearer to
the total number of wickets taken by Muralitharan

3) Muralitharan has got better economy rate of 2.39 in test
matches and 3.84 in ODI as compared to 2.65 in Test
and 4.25 in ODI of Warne

There are loads of factors to consider. Shane Warne is the better cricketer and has a better cricket brain and outwits the opposition as opposed to Murali who bowls with mystery. It also seems like Warne is more dangerous over the 5 days of play. Because he gets spin very early he is able to bowl his best from the beginning, whereas Murali needs a turning pitch on the 4th or 5th day to really threaten. When this happens he can run through you in a few overs whereas you still have a chance against Warne, even though he turns it more, but with Murali you don't know which way it'll turn. One final thing, Warne has been able to take all of these wickets with McGrath and other good bowlers at the other end, whereas with Murali it tends to be a one man show.

Just as a separate point, the ICC made the legal straightening 15 degrees after considering all bowlers. In fact the only one who bowled legally was Ramnaresh Sarwan with Murali's off and top spinners also being legal under the old rules. It is impossible to bowl without some straightening and Murali wasn't the worst offender, it only looks bad to the naked eye.

Shane warne by a mile over murali, leg spinning is the hardest bowling art to master and warne has worked so hard to become the leading wicket taker of all time.

Warne is the best by a mile, more variation, has played against and beaten the best in the world. He has overcome serious shoulder injuries which would have finished a lesser man, plus he can bat a bit. Muralitharan does have a suspect action, but is still an excellent spinner, but he has taken many wickets against lessr opposition. Warne is the man, and I am English !!!!

It has to be Warne, although Murali will no doubt beat his record of wickets, Warne has a better run rate and can create more pressure in leading batsmen than Murali. I say this as a Lancashire lad and a fan of Murali but when it comes to spinners Warney is Mozart, pure genius day in day out.

Murali's record is far superior.

And he's never taken drugs or bookmaker's bribes, and he plays the game with a smile on his face, not getting into this machismo Aussies sh1te of talking about having 'bunnies', or 'the wood' on someone.

He just turns up and gets on with it and still has a loads better record than Warne.

Also English county records favour Murali, where Warnie comes over as a poor man's Ian Salisbury.........
