I'm 40 weeks and 2 days pregnant.

As of last night around 11:00 pm I was getting contractions about 10 minutes apart (and slight cramps with them) I went to bed at 2:00 am still having those mild contractions, but I was able to sleep while having them. Now I just woke up this morning to some stronger cramps associated with each contraction, and they're about 7 minutes apart (and last about 40 seconds long.) It feels like I have to go number 2 constantly (there is some pressure down there) and I have diarrhea.

Is what I'm describing sound like labor? If so, how close together should I wait for the contractions to be? My spouse is at work 30 minutes away, so I don't want to tell him to come home if it's just false labor.

Thank you!

This is my first baby, so I'm not completely sure what to expect.

I would definitely call my husband to come home!! I had contractions about 6-7 minutes apart. I was 3 days late with my second child and even though I wasn't dilated as much as you should be when they admit you they let me stay and they induced me to dilate me. Good Luck to you! This will be your merriest Christmas ever!!!!

Sounds like labor sweetie-but-don't rush too soon beings this is your first delivery! Mine first delivery lasted 32 hours!! Wait until your contractions are 3 to 5 minutes apart or your water breaks - if you go to early the hospital will send you back home!!! I have 4 boys, 22yrs, 20yrs, 19 yrs and bringing up the rear, last but not least our 13yr old! Every labor was different-but the more you have the faster the labor! I had that last baby at the Burger King on the way to the hospital-just could not wait-hence the name King James! Good luck sweetie-and Congrats!!

It sounds like labor. With my first baby all I felt was menstrual like cramps for a while and I like you felt that pressure. After a couple of hours of these strong contractions, my water broke. The pressure that you are feeling is the baby's head moving down. Your contractions should be at least 5 minutes apart before calling the doctor.
I would call your husband. Even if it is your first baby... those too can come fast. Your labor may progress fast and you want him to be there.
My sister had her first within 5 hours of starting labor.
Good luck! Congrats!

Yes it sounds like labor. I would call the hospital where ur delivering because each hospital has their own plan for when to go. Or when ur contractions are 5 minutes apart I would go if this is ur first or sooner if not. When i had the presuure ur talking about I was fully dialated and actually my baby was crowning. Doctor had just enough time to get into scrubs to deliver. Good Luck

Wow, you're late! For your sake, I hope so! Could be, but then again it could be your body playing tricks on you! Only a doctor would know, so call call call! You should wait for contractions to be about 5 mins apart before going to the hospital.
Go0d Luck!!!! :o)

You had better call a doctor right away! Things could go quicker than you think--even with your first baby. Don't wait around--it's better to be safe and call. You and your baby's health is most important!

Well you should walk around if you can, that will kick your labor into gear. My friend jus thad her second son and she kept having false labor pains real bad ones and that frustrated her because they were hard and strong...good luck...
