Bonjour!
If the people of France really believe that the people of the US hate them they are giving our comedians too much credibility. In the US we have a huge sense of humor and we joke about EVERYTHING! And everyone.
I suppose there are some who do dislike France and the French people. As I am sure there are people on your country who hate people from the US. AND our governments? Well they really don't mirror how the common people, the people like you and I, feel. The ordinary people, the people who truly make up our country really don't hate the French.
I will also tell you that the ordinary person in the United States, the common people, tend to believe that people from other countries hate us. Those of us who use the computer and talk to people from other countries know differently but the majority of our citizens are under the impression that we, the common people, are hated by the rest of the world.
As the internet and its use grows the borders between countries are blurring. Each year understanding, tolerence, acceptence grows in mankind. I am 53 years old. The changes I have seen from my childhood are beyond dreams! The next 50 years will be amazing!

A good number of Americans *love* France. When I was in school, French was the most popular language class. However, just as many Americans (many of whom have never even been to France) believe that the French are arrogant and unfriendly. Other Americans think that French foreign policy runs counter to American foreign policy, and this leads to jokes about the French being cowards in times of war (particularly since the USA intervened twice to save France from the Germans).

I'm American, and I don't hate French people at all. I like France a lot, to be honest ;) A few idiots over here may not, but there are LOTS of people here who do!
And it sure wasn't France that betrayed the Cherokee people during the 1700s. It was the British.

I'm American and I don't hate French people. But, in America, Americans think the French hate them.

We hate the French because they are perceived as ungrateful, contrarian to American interests, and self serving. While this is most likely not the case of the rank and file French citizen it is the perception of the French government. Perception is reality, just ask American citizens :]
Here are some other reasons your country has a bad image (I’ve not been so these are only what I’ve heard):
Rude to American tourists who spend hundreds of millions in your country annually
Different hygiene – people think you smell bad
Chicks with armpit hair

the French are right...we do hate them
they are godless, gutless cowards who would sell out anyone for a pot of oil.... france, russia, and germany all intentionally stalled the war on iraq by 6 months so sadaam could move his weapons of mass destruction to syria...because they had oil contracts with Iraq, and they did not care if the rest of the world got hit by terrorism or not. They only cared about themselves. They refused to help in the war, unfairly increasing the burden on the USA, in lives and money, and were the usual cowards they have been since world war I. The they joined in the scandal and slander that there were no weapons of mass destruction, when they really existed, and denounced Bush. The slander caused riots around the world. The french have always been spineless cowards who cannot stand for anything decent. They only care about themselves, and will be soon taken over by muslim terrorists, because they cannot put up any resistance at all. Taking over France is an "easy win" for the terrorists, since the french believe in giving the terrorist everything they want....the only thing France is good for is prostitutes and champagne.

I think french people hate Americans, English and all greater nations on the globe. Why? because they are french. They may like only Russians, because Russians are so far from everything civilized. So, there is no competition between French and Russians. Of course French people are very arrogant. I never met a totally good French in my life. But I met also very good French people. Probably it will be better to say, that there are always good and bad people. Only one thing , which is not discussed is that French people really believe that they are the best. So this is their biggest error. Believe me I met them a lot, a lot, a lot ..................uuuuu....
So, awaiting a bad ratings....but I answered honestly. I think asker need a honest answers.

Maybe that's just a mentality, something assumed, not really true. I do not really know. I am neither French nor American. I think that mentality originated from the French Revolution. Am I right? Was it French vs. Americans during the French Revolution?

Ooh La, La - most think of France and romance. We have French bread, croissants, pastries. Parisian is haute cuisine/couture - it is intrinsic in our overall culture.
America is a land of immigrants - only the American Indian is a native. We are Americans of English, German, French, Polish, Vietnamese, Portuguese....you name it descent. Ofcourse every American is not going to like everything. Does every Frenchman like Americans?
