There is a section on your home page by your top friends that says something like view birthdays. That shows all your friends birthdays that are coming up. It is the same for them. If you have show my birthday enabled then they will see that. To disable showing your birthday you can go to account settings and I believe under privacy you can disable that.

It shows on your friends sites days before your birthday letting them know who's birthday is coming up.
