How do I tell my mom that I want to buy a thong? No I'm not some 11 year old who wants to impress guys and look like a wh*re. I'm 14 (almost) and the underwear my mom buys me are like huge and they come up above my pants, so I either have to pull my pants up really high like Steve Urkle or keep pushing my underwear all day. Now let me explain that my mom is most likely going to say no trust me I know. Or say let me talk to your dad which I really don't want her to do. I know on Christmas I'm supposed to get a lot of money because my parents allready told me. I'm thinking about just buying one when we go after christmas shopping when my mom isn't around.

I do my own laundry, so it's not like my parents would find them in the wash or anything, but some way some how my parents always know when somethings going on it's like they have a sixth sense. Creepy.

Oh yea, and when my mom was my age she was a tomboy so I know that thongs were probably the farthest thing from her mind so I doubt that she has any idea why I want one.

The question isn't how do you tell your mom, but how do you convince her, to acquiesce, right? For the record, I am a 40 year old father of two. I have a daughter just a little younger than you (she is 11). I have a son who is nearly 19.

That being said, you want to change the style of your underclothes to more reflect your budding sense of identity, correct? I think it is important for you to discuss your sense of self with your parents (your mom or your dad, whomever you feel more comfortable). Don't expect instant gratification. It is hard to recognize and accept your daughter's sexuality. Never the less, time marches on.

Trust me. If you have them, your mom will know. If you go behind her back, you won't have them for long - principle of the thing (or should I say principle of the thong).

Perhaps you should start by letting her know you're not happy with the Granny Panties. I buy my daughter "boy pants" which at the moment she is happy with. She also has some bikinis but no thongs. Start by being honest and open with her. This may make one or both of you uncomfortable, but you'll continue to grow up. This is an opportunity for you to establish the begining of a relationship with your mother as a woman (which you're not yet but soon will be) which will be important and rewarding for both you and your mom.

Unfortunately what you consider cute, we (the dirty old men of the world) consider sexy. Best not to whine, but tell your mom the Granny Panties are embarrassing. Perhaps you could go to something a little lower cut so you're not completely uncomfortable with the panties above the pants thing. The thing we parents whig out about is the very top of the thong visible above the waistband of your pants. I like it very much in young women (and even some more mature women can pull it off) but my daughter with this "look" will give me the "willies".

The other thing you can do, is take an incredible risk, and talk with your dad about it. You might be surprised. You might get a little trip to Victoria's Secret (or your favorite shop) just for a little togetherness and understanding. ...or you might get grounded until you're 35.

I was around your age when i bought my first thong...and i hid it from my mom cause i was so scared of what she would say. haha i tried to do my own laundry and stuff but it never worked out, i think she kinda ignored it for a while before next thing i knew she was buying em for me as presents and stuff (we both have like a million pairs of underwear, its an obsession) My advice to you is figure out what you really want. There is other underwear besides thongs. Id say ask her for those is will be easier on her and then if you still want a thong...just go out and buy it. your not hurting anyone...its underwear. i just hope your not buying em to show em all off...

why a thong? You don't need a thong to avoid the huge ones that come above your pants. There's all kinds of cuts that work to keep you from looking like Urkle, but a thong coming above your pants (and I'm assuming that's the look you are going for) pretty much just says one thing to guys. It's smarter to stay away from that. You should go for a compromise with your mom.

Well, instead of a thong, you could buy a low rise bikini. They are cute and comfy, and you can't see them with jeans on. Thongs are sooo uncomfortable and because the material is so close to your body it highly increases the chance of getting a yeast infection. Wal mart has cute undies or you could try my personal favorite, www.victoriassecret.com. They have tons of different styles and designs. If you do end up buying a thong just hide it and after you wear it wash it yourself so your mom won't find it. Good luck : )

There are many different styles of underwear that don't look like huge granny panties. I wouldn't go with a thong at your age, but there are several cute cuts that will fit nicer, and work with your pants. Just tell your mom how much it annoys you that everyone can see your huge underwear all the time, and that you would like to try another style that won't show. If you don't mention "thong" she might go with you on it.

Yeah I know what you are saying, I am the same age, 14. I wanted to start wearing thongs too and I didn't know what to say to my mom. Well basically I went shopping with my friend one day and then I just bought some and then I came home and basically sorta told her and she didn't really even care because she couldn't change it now. Well now my mom doesn't care so that's usually what I wear now. Don't let other people tell you that you are too young to wear thongs that is crazy.

how about tprepeing her - instead of going all out to her and saying i'm buying a thong - try saying - Mom, I think at my age I should buy my own underware - it's becasue the underware you get me comes up above my pants and i feel embarressed - i was thinking of getting a thong with my own christmas money but i can settle with a bikini shaped one if you prefer

* a bikini shaped one is like a pre thong it just covers your rear a bit more

I wouldn't get a thong (I've found only a few that are comfortable for any length of time), but try bikini cut or low rise/hip huggers. If you really want one and your parents are against it, just start doing your own laundry. I started doing mine around your age, because my parents used to shrink my shirts and my socks would wind up in every drawer but my own. Got off topic there... Anyway, try that!

At Walmart there are cute bikini cut low-rise underwear. They come in a 6 pack and are only $7 or $8. These would work for what you are describing and they are still age appropriate.

just tell her, not ask her, i know that sounds rude, but if you say..... mum, i think out of some of my christmas money i want to buy some new underwear and im thinking of getting some of them thongs coz i like them. if she says no, then ask her why and see if you can get a proper reason for her answer.
