I can't seem to find a good wireless router that uses a and g signals. I already have a "g" router. Should I just get an a/g access point?

Your best bet for what you described is to replace your existing wireless g router with a dual band a/b/g router, that is, if you definitely want to spend the extra money to also have 802.11a. I often recommend the Linksys WRT55AG for about $120. I imagine that maybe you want to have your laptop using .11a and your game(s) using .11g or maybe something similar?

don't need a .11g access point, there are a waste of money. get another .11g router and set it up as an access point. AP's cost substantially more than routers for no other reason except that there are very few models of them made as compared to dozens of wireless routers.

.11g has a smaller operational cell radius than .11a. so the closer your wireless receiver is to the router the better...
