Don't mistake all of the East Side for the "Downtown East Side" (East Hastings) A lot of the East Side is fun and funky and the rents are much cheaper than the West Side (Kits, UBC) and Downtown (Went End, English Bay)
Commercial Drive and Main Street both have some pretty cool neighbourhoods...

$280,000 USD for a house ? i don't think of so. possibly some tiny little apt. Vancouver is between the most severe priced cities to stay in Canada. you also won't be able to easily bypass right here until eventually you and also you gf have artwork helps and may legally stay in Canada. you may't basically %. your stuff and bypass.... the superb neighborhoods in Vancouver is downtown section and West end. I lived there and that i stumbled on it a good position to stay yet you received't locate any houses there. you'll ought to %. a diverse section which includes Burnaby in case you want to purchase a house.

Well since I live in Vancouver the BEST place to live is near UBC. Although do AVOID living near East Hastings (down town) cause don't be fooled by the nice looks during the day time, night time is the WORST time of the day. Druggies come out, poor people are ALL over the place unfourchanlty, ALOT of bad things happen at night near down town.

If you are young (20 to 39), Kitsilano.
If you have money, Point Grey or near the University.
If you like the rain, West Vancouver.
Everything else is fine, but typical. Avoid Vancouver East.
