I seem to have met more people this year that have just decided to give up on Xmas altogether. Others do the politically correct thing and dodge it alltogether by taking a distant vacation. What's your view on this? Are you skipping it this year????

I don't detest Christmas. I'm thoroughly disturbed by the commercialism of it all. Gifts, gifts, gifts. The news reports constantly on the profit and losses of the local stores vs. previous years. More people work for this holiday, years ago, more people were home for the holiday. I wish Christmas was like it was when I was a child. I knew it meant time off from school, it meant a couple of gifts under the tree, it meant my whole family was coming over for Christmas dinner (great family time) and it meant going to Church to celebrate the birth of Christ. As I've gotten older, the presents I "feel" I have to buy have become expensive, the family has better things to do, and it seems like Church is the last thing on my mind. What happened?

I don't like the part about buying Christmas gifts for people I should give but people I may not like that much...
I also don't like the over-commercialised side of Xmas. Don't mind the holidays though :) always can do with more time off work to spend on stuff I like to do and catch up with family and friends. Better yet, go on holiday.
I would like Xmas holidays more if people actually talk more about Christ rather than all the hype.

I skipped the gift-giving this year, but still remembered all the important people and either caught up with them over meals or gave them thoughtful cards.

i definitely do not detest the Xmas! Because at lease once a year there is a season of giving and sharing.

I make sure that i help those who are less fortunate specially helpless and hungry children, why don't you share?

I dont like it much, it also doesnt help that I am away from my family because im in a different country for school. I just think its a way that people use to spend loads of money. They forget the whole point of the season.

Not at all. It is superficially a joyous time of year and even though I am a non theist Secular Humanist I choose what I wish from allthat transpires in this season, of a religious nature or not, and enjoy it in my own way.

Due to other family members we feel forced to do Christmas every year. The kids like it, the grandparents like it. They get to see the grand kids and enjoy them for a short day or two. I find my self stressed out trying to get everyone what they want and wanting to get everyone I know something also. I wonder what ever happened to surprising your kids, instead of them producing a detailed list-specific brand, color, etc. Small children are so easy to please!

I love Christmas but it is not fun when your grandma died and usually you spent time there on Christmas.
