my dell laptop system type D610 is a little less than a year old. It has one battery. Recently (like starting a few days ago) I have had been having difficulties with my computer .The problem is that my batter does not seem to work. when I have my computer plugged in with my recharger it works just fine and it says it is using ACpower, but the batter does not recharge. As soon as I unplug my computer, it shuts itself down. Also, when I turn my computer on, the following message appears.

the AC power adapter type cannot be determined this will prevent optimal system performance. Strike F3 key if you do not want to see this power warning message again.strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the set up utility.

What is wrong, and how can I fix it? If you need anymore details, feel free to ask. Also, feel free to email or IM me.

I know about the recall, we have already checked our battery and it is not one of those included in the recall.

My Dell power cord did the same thing. Give them a buzz & they will walk you through some trouble shooting & send you a new one if your old cord is the problem. You have to send the old one back to not get charged for the new one.

The Warranty on the DELL Battery is usually 1 year - and Computer manufacturers do just enough to see that exactly this period is covered. It happened to my Hard Disc as well - exactly 12 months and it crashed!

So the Battery is my first doubt. Get it checked. If it is OK, then the connector terminals within the Notebook's Battery room have to be examined. A Dell Service outlet or your Computer Store will find out.

You know there is a recall on certain Dell laptop batteries. Check the Dell website for details on which battery p/n's are being recalled. I think some of them are also catching fire, and it is recommended to remove the battery until you receive a replacement.

The best place for this will be the nearest DELL service station. They will check if the battery is dead or still alive. Most probably it seems dead, better to take it out and show it to the dell service personnel, a dead battery can be harmful if left inside.

Then it is probably the problem in your AC adapter. Go to your nearest DELL dealer and he will give you another AC adapter.
