I would suspect a virus or spyware. Run a full scan with your anti-virus software. I recommend that you go to http://www.download.com and get AD-AWARE and SpyBot Search & Destory. Install, run, update and scan your computer with both programs.
Of course, it might have been caused by a minor power fluctuation from your power company. If you get repeated reboots, then get a UPS system to keep your computer UP during these minor power problems.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Virus or worm, whatever it is, you don't want it. You have a file that was loaded onto your computer through the internet, without your knowledge, that is causing this. If you don't have security software (sounds like you don't) get it ASAP. It is free from Norton. I have McAfee because it came free with my PC.
These companies have web sites where you can download the necessary software. If you can't even do that cause your system is rebooting so often, call them and ask for help. Most have an 800 number for both sales and help.
Otherwise, if it isn't happening very often, check your power supply (electrical). Do you have any problems with your PC when it is plugged into another outlet? Does anything else you plug into this outlet do wierd things? Try to narrow down the problem by changing one thing at a time.
Good Luck

It could be overheating. Many computers have a failsafe that keeps them from bursting into flames by simply shutting down the computer. Get a can of compressed air at your local computer shop, crack open the case and blow off any dust you find in the entire case (pay close attention to every fan you can see, including the power supply fan). If that doesn't solve your problem, turn on the computer with the case off and see if all the fans are running (as they can fail from time to time). If that doesn't work, then you might have a faulty power supply. If that's the case, make sure you take it with you to the computer store so you can get one with either the same, or a higher wattage (the higher the better if you can afford it, 550 is pretty good). Good luck!

Check your event viewer, and see if your getting any errors.
Right click my computer, click manage, expand event viewer. You will see 3 categories: Application, security, and system. You can look through these to find whether your PC is experiencing any specific issues.
Unfortunately, these messages are usually difficult to interpret. If you do find one, post it up here again. maybe someone will be able to assist.
BTW, I really love it when a PC reboots, and the first conclusion folks jump to are viruses and spyware.

Do you use security software if so the security software in particular the stuff I use may automaticlly restart the system when installing new updates with or with out user interaction. sometimes you can edit this settings to where it will not do that sometimes you cannot good luck solving this one. however it is important to note that other posts above mine in this thread are also possible reasons your system would display this behavoir.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.

It sounds like a power supply problem to me. Check to make sure that your fan is running, as it could be overheating.
