I heard that Norton is the best, but some users say that Norton can't detect some of the viruses that are aimed to be "Norton proved."
I heard that Avg is also good, but never use it before, any suggestion??
I am using symantec antivirus right now.

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

No AVG is weak. Norton is the best one. NOD 32 is good too. But if you are going to use Norton you should have a minimum of 1 GB ram and at least 2,0 Ghz of CPU. There are some kind of viruses and Trojans that Norton cannot repair and doesn't recognize them, but NOD 32 does. Make sure that your Anti Virus is always up to date. Good Luck

AVG is free and good, I use it.
Also, Ewido antispyware is very good and free.
I would also urge you to consider using a Firewall as a first line of defence (AVG also).
IMHO you need all three to feel somewhat safe.
As the previous answers say, you have to update regularly.
