Sorry to say Microsoft -- although they mainly take others ideas and make money on them --- nothing wrong with that I guess --- I believe Mr Gates was a geek with business savy -- He could hang with the super smart geeks and had the sense to cherry pick their great ideas and turn them into money. Again .. brilliant

In "how to ask questions the Smart way" it is suggested that the terms be limited.

Virus proof, FREE product, companies? By number of users?
By downloads, or, server log numbers?

Like, what if I told you the true answer to your question is 'Not a 'Company' like in a business sense" but, a "grass roots movement" of over 2 million programmers and designers, offering over 135,000 FREE games, programs, applications, browsers, and suites, and 811+ Operating Systems?

Is your question for the OVERALL usage of ALL computers, or just business ones, or home ones, or, internet connected ones?

Your question is much too broad! Like who is the Largest car maker in the world? Well, are SUVs cars? Are vans cars? They are marketed to the public as cars, but, built under 'Truck' EPA and Safety design laws, in many countries! How do we count Mercedes-Chrysler? Or, GM? Those are the mother corporations, with financials, but, the individual daughter corporations each compete in the markets with similar niche products!

Over 84% of all Fortune 1,000 businesses run one of the 811 versions of GNU/Linux. GNU/Linux is the Linux kernel, but, bundled by over 811 different people, families, groups, corporations, into those different offerings, many for FREE!

83% of the computers that SERVE the internet run GNU/Linux.

Microsoft Corporation runs 45,000 computers on GNU/Linux for Hotmail.com (since 1997!), MSN.com, Microsoft.com, all routers, firewalls, all worldwide communications, all Aruba routers on Redmond Campus, the Linux Lab 400.

GNU/Linux runs upto 50X faster in all benchmarks since 1996, on the same PC hardware! One GNU/Linux server replaces upto 12 Microsoft servers!

The largest computer system and software applications, games, programs 'company' would have to be the "FOSS - Free Open Source Software" movement!

Each 'downloaded' GNU/Linux Operating System copy averages installation on ten (10) PCs/ Macs/Alphas/ Sparcs.

My preferred one, is http://pclinuxos.com for laptops, notebooks, PCs. Comes with 5500 games, programs... FREE!!!
