Well my pc has a 1000 watt power supply but thats because it has quad core and quad sli graphics card. But a system off the shelf will be around 400 -600watts depending on the items you have installed and how use it. People gaming or doing major conversion of videos and other files will use more power than people just browsing the internet. Pcs at the stores will be 400 watts at the low end and about 700 watts at the high end.

Power supplies,can range from about 250W to 500W. It depends on how many devices, are in your computer.
