Because we are a very much more populous society than ancient days, WE must make decisions for our pets about reproduction - i.e. be responsible and spay & neuter. When we don't, there are then too many pets & they become throwaway. We cheapen life by not being responsible caretakers.

All animals deserve care and respect. My dogs get treated better than most humans and I have huge vet bills but not only is it worth it but it is my responsibilty. I hate people who their animals liike property or throw them away because it is just working or they do not want the responsibility. It is a huge problem with our society that we do not take responsiblity for our actions, and we are just plain irrogant to think that animals are here for use and pleasure. It is like the sickos who fight dogs, we blame the innocent dog when they are being exploited for someone's sick pleasure. Humans do not want the responsibilty so we will punish the dog even though we created the problem. I also hate the people who get an animal and never take care of it or spend time with it. they are not cars they are living beings who need care and love. And anyone who gets a pet should not be so ignorant and not realize the care and possible cost before they get it.

I hate our society's throw away attitude to animals. I've picked up 4 rabbits from my vet that were due to be euthanised because they were not wanted any more and there have been others that I simply didn't have the room for. I get angry when I go past a pet store and see another two cages filled with cute bunnies and chicks at Easter, knowing that most will see less than a year of life, and of the ones that get past that, few will experience the care and love they deserve.
Sore topic for me all round.

There are humane society's for a reason. I do not believe any animal deserves to be killed just for being a nusance. However, if the animal is very ill and there isn't a way to save it, I can see the logic in letting it go. We had a cat that got so old and sick he was pooping randomly, wandering off, peeing on himself, going blind and deaf and falling over... there was nothing the vet could do. It was more humane to have him put to sleep because he was miserable in life. The only reason we were keeping him alive for so long with medication was for ourselves- so we didn't have to lose him. I think that was even more selfish.

Respect is a very delicate subject. Is it respectful to kill a healthy animal for food? Is it respectful to euthanize an animal who is suffering? The way in which a person shows respect is very different. I do believe we should derive our food source from animals which are healthy. I do believe that an animal should be humanely euthanized instead of it being allowed to suffer.
Part of growing up and is learning how to determine what is right on a case by case basis. Generalities are a sign of an immature/ignorant mind.
Ignorant means lack of knowledge, not the inability to obtain it.

I completly agree with you, killing animals or thinking of them as a waste is teribble! People just don't come with a heart in this world, and no one is sure why. Animals are mammals like humans, and they have feelings just like humans! People should put themselves in the dogs shoes! It makes me so angry to think about all the stray dogs right now, and their mean (used to be) owners. We should all help. There's a lot of it going on, but start helping out at a shelter! Make fundraisers so you can bring in more animals! To sum it all up, it is cruel and unjust; they deserve to live.

Thanks for bringing this up. I lived in India for a few years and could never get used to the treatment of animals there. On the other hand - people are developing more consciousness now and you will also find many pet lovers and animal rights activists in India. I hope the trend continues.

Yes many people believe that if u have a "problem" animal u should fix the promlem by killing them but the real promblem is maybe that the people have been treating the animal badly or not spending enough time w/ them

That's a bit of a generalisation. Firstly, which society? In the UK it seems a minority of people are deliberately cruel or neglect their animals through ignorance but as I society I don't think it an attitude that is particularly prevelent.

they do deserve to live and I know in todays society it is so sad because life has no real value, any thing that people consider is inconvenient its life has no value, this applies to animals as well as babies....I am ashamed to be part of the human race.....
